Letโs not forget in the ๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐๐๐ญ the union agreed to a committee of 4 day work weeks.ย The main goal of this for management was to ๐ข๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฌ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ฏ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ and itโs stated plain as day.
Fast forward to the current contract proposal that we have to ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ on, employee availability is on there again.
The language seems vague on how theyโre going to increase employee availability, well itโs not. We must remember that these contracts are an ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐๐ก ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ. So the MTA is going to increase employee availability by introducing ๐ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค ๐ฐ๐๐๐ค๐ฌ as soon as the contract is ratified.
4 day work weeks will eventually introduce part-time workers to buses. The language actually says that itโs not construed to mean part time operators, but it also doesnโt mean that it wonโt happen.
So with a 4 day work week and ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐๐ฌ in the near future, buses will be doomed. Runs will be cut, OT will he gone and part timers will be on the property.
If you vote yes and you canโt retire within the end of this contract (2023), youโre setting yourself up for failure.
