𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐬 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬…
Let’s not forget in the 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕-𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟗 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭 the union agreed to a committee of 4 day work weeks.
The main goal of this for management was to 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 and it’s stated plain as day.
Fast forward to the current contract proposal that we have to 𝐕𝐎𝐓𝐄 𝐍𝐎 on, employee availability is on there again.
The language seems vague on how they’re going to increase employee availability, well it’s not. We must remember that these contracts are an 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫. So the MTA is going to increase employee availability by introducing 𝟒 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 as soon as the contract is ratified.
4 day work weeks will eventually introduce part-time workers to buses. The language actually says that it’s not construed to mean part time operators, but it also doesn’t mean that it won’t happen.
So with a 4 day work week and 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 in the near future, buses will be doomed. Runs will be cut, OT will he gone and part timers will be on the property.
If you vote yes and you can’t retire within the end of this contract (2023), you’re setting yourself up for failure.
I put all the language here for you to read for your self!
Buses 𝐕𝐎𝐓𝐄 𝐍𝐎 and send the union back to the table for better protection and language‼️
